Turkey Dinner Donation--
On Nov 20th, for the second year in a row our Council participated in the Thanksgiving Turkey Program sponsored
by St Philip & James with the help of St Elizabeth Parish. The overall program benefits others not just BVM
Visitation, our sister Parish.
The original request from the Parish committee was for the Knights only to provide transportation to various
locations. However, our Council also decided to donate up to $500.00 for the purchase of 15 complete dinners
provided it was used to for our sister parish, Visitation BVM in Philadelphia.
Brothers Jim Smith Mike Kasper & Bill Schell did the shopping for the Turkeys, canned vegies, deserts, etc.
All of the Turkeys were purchased at a very low price. We also gathered boxes from various stores.
In addition to the 15 Dinners the Knights Council donated, we received 20 complete dinner donations from
Brother Knights & their families. All total, we took 35 dinners to our Sister parish, Visitation BVM. A few of
these were "special" for the BVM Sisters.
On the Day of distribution the Knights did the packing and helped load cars. Brothers Mike Kasper & John Fiore
transported the donations to BVM in Phila.
Overall the Turkey Program furnished 170 Turkey Dinners to various needy families.

Adopt-a-Trail Cleanup--
We had another successful clean-up of the church grounds and the trail stretching from the corner of Graphite
Mine Road/Station Blvd. to Fellowship Road/Eagle Farms Road. Although a little windy, we had a nice turnout
of the 10 brothers listed below and Liam’s two children. In total, we picked up about 4 full bags of trash
(considerably less than the Spring which was a good sign) and spruced up the grounds in preparation for the
noon America Needs Fatima rosary.
It was also nice to see the township’s recently erected signs with our council name/logo recognizing our
maintenance of the trail. Our council will continue performing cleanups twice per year with the next one planned
for April/May 2012. Thanks again to everyone for their support.

blood donations. Close to 90 pints of blood were collected--thanks to the organizing efforts of Brother Dan Keating.
In the first picture below, we see Nick DiProspero (left) and his wife Silvia getting ready to support the event.
To their right is DGK Curt Zingaro looking surprised that he qualifies. Behind them stands the event coordinator,

Family Picnic--
This was our annual Family picnic open to all St. Elizabeth Knights and their families. The event this year was
held Sun, Aug 21st in the Parish Social Hall which really helped out since it rained for most of the event. However, the rain did
not dampen our spirits! It was a great turnout with plenty of food available. The Knights provided hamburgers, hot dogs,
rolls, beverages- including soda, water, beer, and ice tea, and chips & dip. The sides, salads, appetizers, and desserts
were prepared by many of the Knights families and were absolutely delicious. Special thanks to all those who helped with
the set up and clean up especially the wives and children. While there were almost 100 people in attendance, a special
recognition goes out to:
- Father Frank Chambers- our Worthy Chaplain
- Bill Schell- the expert of food products at BJ's and Grill donation
- Joey Tiriro and Phil Bauer- our Grill Masters
- Jim Smith- Grill donation and Ice buckets

Golf Tournament--
Friday, June 24, 2011, this was our 9th annual Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament. It was held at the Kimberton
Golf Club where 63 golfers and 8 volunteers participated. As usual, a little rain fell on the tournament for
perhaps four holes, but we survived and a good time was had by all. The winning foursome shot a 53, seventeen (17)
strokes under par. Perhaps this was aided by the yardsticks that could be purchased to "buy putts."
Hole sponsors for the event included the following:
- Advancial (Gregg Amicon)
- Brandywine Senior Living
- Citizens Bank
- Coldstream Crossing Retirement Community
- Edwards Jones Investing (T.R.Campbell)

|
Clothing Drive--
The 2011 Clothing Drive held on June 11 & 12 was a huge success. The Council along with the Parishioners
of St. Elizabeth’s Parish filled a 48 ft tractor trailer from front to back with clothing, books, utensils,
pots, pans and small appliances.
This year’s beneficiary was once again the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Philadelphia, PA.
The Society of SVD called after getting the trailer back from us to express their thanks and amazement at
how well stocked and the quality of the goods collected. The Society of SVD was in desperate need of household
items such as utensil, pots and pans and our drive went a long way in helping.
About 20 Brothers helped with this year’s collection.
|
Springton Potato Project--
Since 2003 the St Elizabeth Knights of Columbus Council 13141 have planted a vegetable garden for the Chester County Food
Bank Gleaning Program to help the less fortunate in our area. In 2005 the Council decided to grow potatoes in lieu of
tomatoes, peppers, etc. Last year we harvested 5062 lbs of high quality potatoes for the Chester County Food Bank.
We hope to do the same again this year.
Planting
We finally got the Spuds planted on Saturday, June 4, 2011. It was about 6 weeks late because of the wet weather,
but better late than never. Please say a prayer to St Isidor and his angles that we will have a good crop in spite of
the early wet weather and late planting.
We had a great crew of 37 volunteers, 15 Knights, two wives, quite a few children and several people from the Food Bank
crew. Total time to plant 700 Lbs of seed potatoes in 22 -300ft rows was 3 hours.
Again this year, thanks to Pat Kasper for getting the youth from St Elizaberh to help out on such a short notice.
Thanks too for her Prayers to St Isidor with the crew. As usual Mary Damian took pictures and was a big help with
planting.
Council Members who participated in the hilling activity/event: Bill Schell, Jim Smith, Ray Williams, Fred Clark,
Mike Kasper, Curt Zingaro, Doug Cox, John Rogge, Bill Simpson, Matt Jiannino, John Layden, Lou Lefebvre, Rich Turocy,

Cultivating
These pictures were taken after cultivating, July 9, 2011, soon ready to hill. Also, looking for volunteers to help pick up rocks.
Council Members who participated in the Cultivating: Bill Schell & Jim Smith,
Rock Picking
The senior citizens of our Council visited the Springton Potato field on July 14, 2011, and picked up 7 Gator loads of
rocks and delivered them to the dump. This senior group consisted of Brothers Bill Schell, Doug Cox, Ray Williams and
Fred Clark. When they got home about 2:00 PM I'm sure they all took a long nap.
The field still looks good and we expect to do some hilling early next week.
Hilling
On July 20, 2011 the Senior Springton Potato Program Team struck again. These pictures show the potato fields after
we used our new hilling tractor attachment. To say the least this sure beats the old steel rake method and will save a
great deal of time & work,

Here's how the event worked: The Postal workers picked up donations from their customers.

All donations were then checked for current dates (non-expired), then sorted by category.
As the sort bins filled up they were weighed, and then taken to the storage area.
5519 pounds of food were collected this year.
Thanks to BK John Magee for organizing our participation again this year.

MARCH FOR LIFE - WASHINGTON, D.C. - JANUARY 24, 2011--
"We Pray for all of God's Children - The born and the unborn."
Our St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus Council #13141 along with the Parish Respect Life Committee and
St. Elizabeth Parish jointly sponsored a bus to Washington to join the annual Rally and March for Life.
Msgr. Mullin led us in a Respect For Life prayer service just prior to our early morning departure.
We took the opportunity on our travel south to say the Pro Life Rosary and to update our March For
Life participants on our program for the day. With a brief rest stop in Maryland concluded, our destination
in Washington was the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
After a thirty minute visit to the Basilica most of our group departed for the Metro Station to board the
train that would take us to the rally being held in the Mall area between the Washington Monument and the
Capitol. Prior to leaving for the Metro Station our group took part in an interview that was subsequently
published in Catholic Standard and Times. Some elected to spend the day in the Basilica where they took
advantage of the various Masses and other religious services that are offered throughout the day.
After arriving in the Rally area we listened to several talks from a wide variety of Pro Life politicians
and other Pro Life advocates. We were all encouraged to learn that over 90% of the freshman class taking
their seats this term consider themselves Pro Life. The Rally concluded around 2:00 PM and then the March
to the Capitol area began. After reaching the vicinity of the Capitol some of our group decided to
continue on to the Supreme Court where a large crowd assembled for songs and prayers. Others returned
via the Metro to the Basilica where we attended a late afternoon Pro Life Mass.
We boarded the bus at 5:15 PM and after all were accounted for, we began our return trip with our end of
the day arrival back at the Parish around 9:00 PM. On the way home we spent some time in individual
prayer and watched videos on important areas of our Respect For Life effort. As always, a great day to
be part of this prayer filled rally in the continuing fight for the end of abortion in America and throughout
the world. Each year hundreds of thousands (400 hundred thousand?) participate and the St. Elizabeth
Council is proud to partner in the fight for life with all who attend and especially with our brother
Knights from throughout the nation.
