Our council hosts a large number of activities throughout the year.
Our Activities include: Corporate Communion, Communion Breakfast, Council
Cookout, Retreats, Church Activities, Basketball Free Throw Contest, Family
Activities, Community Service and Council Activities.
Wheelchair Program--We offer wheelchairs for those in need. If you
know someone that requires a wheelchair, please contact one of the Knights.
Right to Life Activities--These are all wonderful opportunities to show our
support for life. Statistics show that all of these prayers and demonstrations have
reduced abortions. There are plenty of opportunities to support right to life:
- On alternating 1st Saturdays of each month (in the St Elizabeth daily Chapel),
rosaries are prayed at 8:00 AM, followed by Mass at 8:30 am.
- Quarterly adoration in the St Elizabeth daily Chapel.
- 1st Saturday of each month: Mass at St Agnes in West Chester at 8:00 am.
Following the Mass, there is a march of about 3 blocks to the Planned
Parenthood Clinic where 3 rosaries are prayed.
- 3rd Saturday of each month, Mass is at St. John the Evangelist in center
city Philadelphia, around 13th and Locust, at 7:00 am. Following the Mass,
there is a march of about 5 blocks to the Planned Parenthood Clinic where
3 rosaries are prayed. After the rosary, many return to St. John's for
Benediction.
- Every Wed. evening you may join our Brothers from the West Chester Council
as they demonstrate in front of the Planned Parenthood Clinic in West Chester.

Springton Manor Potato Project-(Weeding and Hilling)--
On Saturday, June 5th, The Knights of Columbus and St. Elizabeth Parish Youth Group returned to the potato field
for a "little" maintenance. Lots of weeding was done on Friday, and the rows were tilled to loosen the soil for
hilling. This is when the growing plants are (almost) "hilled over", to allow the spuds a good place to grow-around
the existing plant (instead of deep, or above ground).

the Sisters of Visitation of the Blessed Mother.

Mulching of the Parish Grounds--
A big "thank you" to the 22 Brother Knights for the great job they did on the Mulch Project.
We started at 9:00 am and were completely wrapped up and leaving by 2:00 pm after moving 31
yards of mulch and removing 1/2 dozen trees. The work was made easier by having an onsite
cookout-providing a much needed break and "refueling". We have received many positive comments from
fellow parishioners and Monsignor.
We received extra help for this project and owe a special thank you to:
Dave Frame of Frame Equipment for donating and delivering the mulch!
The Donoghue children and J.D. Fiore!
Kevin Freese (local contractor) and Henry Greiner (Brian's grandfather) for bringing and operating their equipment!
To the Kitchen Crew: Nick Tretta- Head Chef, Barb Batt- desserts, and Patty Smith for assisting in the kitchen!
Great team work and a job well done! Thanks
|
St. Elizabeth Parish, May Procession--
On Wed, May 19th, Sir Knights of our Fourth Degree Color Corp assisted in the Parish's fourth annual May Procession.
This year’s theme was Mary, our Mother of Discipleship.
Many other Knights and families participated and attended as well. There was a procession from the education center, around the Parish
grounds, along Fellowship road, and into the Church. The Procession was followed by liturgy.
It was our honor and priveledge to participate, and "Hail Mary, Mother of God".
|
The ARC of PA Collection--
The Knights were out again in April and May this year at Acme locations in Exton and Eagle, for
the annual "Measure Up" campaign. This can collection solicits donations for a very
worthy cause, the PA Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC)
The collection for ARC was again a success this year (most Pennsylvania
Knights of Columbus Councils participate). Our Council collected just over $1500 in four days.
This was our Council’s seventh year participating in this event. Thanks to Tom Kirk and Pat Donoghue
for organizing. Also, a big Thank You to the Acme stores in Exton and Eagle for
their help by allowing us to use their locations for this collection.
And finally, many thanks to our generous community!

Postal Workers Food Drive for the Lord's Pantry--
The Postal Workers Food Drive (Sat, May 8th) for the Lord's Pantry was another great
success. The Knights were very well represented for both the first shift and
the second shift.
Here's how the event worked: The Postal workers picked up donations from their customers.
As each truck finished their routes, they dropped off all collections at the Lord's Pantry.
All donations were then checked for current dates (non-expired), then sorted by category.
As the sort bins filled up they were weighed, and then taken to the storage area.
Thanks to BK John Magee for organizing our participation again this year.

Springton Manor Potato Project-(Planting)--
On Saturday, April 17th, THe Knights of Columbus and St. Elizabeth Parish Youth Group gathered again to plant
potatos for the gleaning project for local Chester County food banks.
A Big Spud Thank You again this year for all of your help planting the potato field at Springton Manor Farm
on Friday and Saturday. We planted 625lbs of seed potatoes and with any luck we should harvest well over 3000lbs
in August. If you couldn't make it I'm sorry you missed all the fun.
Over the two days we had the help of 14 Brothers: Skip Valentine, Ralph Boardman, John Fiore, Bill Shields,
Rich Turocy,Curt Zingaro, Bill Simpson, Bill Schell, John Layden, Mike Kasper, Fred Clark, Jim Smith,
Lou Lefebvre and Ray Williams. Many of these Brothers worked both Friday and Saturday. Of course,
Larry Welsch of the Chester County Food Bank was there with snacks, etc. As usual, Mrs.Pat Kasper was
there with about 10 Children from the Parish School and Youth Group. Pat also provided us with snacks and drinks.
A very special thanks to Pat Kasper, Jane Dillon, Anith Simpson, Kathleen Long, Angie Fiore, Carol Kolimago and
Amy Bauer for there help and support.
Our next job will he hilling in about 6 weeks. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

Communion Breakfast--
On Sunday, April 11th, Knights and their families gathered for the 8:00 AM Family Mass. The Celebrant was our own Council Chaplain,
Father Francis Chambers. The Knights were recognized during Mass for celebrating their Family Mass, and also their service to our Parish.
Following Mass, we gathered in the Social Hall for our 8th Annual Communion Breakfast-we had our largest turnout yet this year.
Following the opening remarks and prayer, everyone enjoyed an excellent breakfast, provided by BK Vincent Montesano
and Montesano Brothers Catering.
Following breakfast, Worthy Grand Knight Bill Shields made the following presentations:
The honoree for Knight of the Year Award was SK Curt Zingaro.
During the presentation the Grand Knight, Bill Shields, recognized the leadership Zingaro provided in organizing the first
Parish Breakfast and the Lenten fish fry that preceded the parish youth group performance of the Stations of the Cross.
The honorees for Family of the Year Award Mike and Pat Kasper.
Grand Knight recognized the leadership that Mike and Pat have shown by being involved in the community Springton Manor
Potato Gleaning project, which provided Chester County Food banks with over 2000 lbs of potatoes. Mike also serves as the
Council's Church Director and takes an active role in ensuring that proper coordination of planned events between the Parish
and council.
Note: While a quickly printed certificate was used during the breakfast, the plaque was "formally" presented
(with a hint of "American Gothic"), the following weekend at Springton Manor...
The Council was also proud to present to Monsignor Thomas M. Mullin, Pastor of St. Elizabeth, a check to complete
the $10,000 donation committed to the "Stepping Forward Together" Capital Campaign. The donation is to assist with the
building campaign to finish the school gymnasium and ministry center.
Officers of the council presenting the check were (L to R) John Rogge, Bill Schell, Fred Clark, Phil Forlano, GK Bill Shields,
Msgr Thomas Mullin, and Curt Zingaro.

Approximately 275 people signed up with over 200 attending the event.
Brother Knight Vince Montesano, and Montesano Brothers catered the dinner that included fish or crab cake,
pasta, vegetable slaw, salad, dessert and drinks. In addition, over 20
Knights volunteered their time for ticket sales, set-up, serving, and clean up.
Father Francis Chambers, our Worthy Chaplain, and Monsignor Mullin attended the
dinner as well which was followed by a presentation of the Stations of the Cross
by the St. Elizabeth 8th grade boys and girls at the Church.
A good time was had by all! The planning and organizing of the this event was headed by our Worthy Warden, SK Curt Zingaro.

KofC/Social Fellowship Committee-Breakfast for the Parish--
Sun, Jan 24, the Knights along with the Social/Fellowship Parish Committee, co-hosted a Breakfast for the Parish.
We sold 200 tickets for the Breakfast which was held in the held in the St Elizabeth Parish Social Hall.
Worthy Warden Curt Zingaro organized the event, and did a great job!
...the Parish Breakfast was a huge success! I received many compliments from parishioners on the food, service, and
hospitality of the event. One family told me that they wouldn't have been able to come had we not had an affordable
family package. ( They had 8 in their family). Many parishioners were also pleased that this was a family event and
hoped we would continue this event in the future. In addition to the fine spread put out by Montesano Bros
(thank you Vinnie and Stephen), Matt Zingaro and his side kick, Ron Zanoni, cooked and flipped over 500 pancakes.
Even with that many pancakes served, we still had a pot and a half left of pancake batter.
Many thanks to Bill Schell and Jim Smith for preparing 11- 5lb boxes of Aunt Jemima Mix. Our roving photographers,
Fred Clark and John Rogge, captured many candid moments and I am sure we will be able to view them on our website
shortly. In addition, I want to thank the Ladies of the SFC, for their participation and support in this event.
Finally, without the additional support of over 20 Brother Knights in ticket sales, set up, serving, and clean up,
we could not have pulled this off. My many thanks to you Brothers for your time and hard work. Thanks again, for all you do.
A word about the particulars.....
- 205 parishioners served
- $1435 Approximate ticket sales
-Knights of Columbus donation- we bought and donated a 4 burner griddle and 2 burner griddle to the school. Approximate value- $ 185.00
-This was not a fund raising event and while we did not make money, we only incurred a small loss. All in all, a successful event.
Vivat Jesus,
Curt

March for Life Bus Trip to D.C.--
"We Pray for all of God's Children - The born and the unborn."
The annual March for Life Parish bus trip to Washington, DC took place on Fri, Jan 22, 2010.
(The rental of the bus was organized by our Pro-Life Director, Brother Ray Williams.)
Our St. Elizabeth Council along with the Parish Respect Life Committee jointly sponsored a bus to Washington to join
the annual Rally and March for Life. Msgr. Mullin led us in a Respect Life prayer service just prior to our early
morning departure. We took the opportunity on our travel south to say the Rosary and then to watch a video presentation which
enlightened us on the many aspects of stem cell research. Our destination in Washington was the Basilica of
the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
After a brief visit to the Basilica most of our group departed for the Metro Station to board the train that
would take us to the rally being held in the Mall area between the Washington Monument and the Capitol.
Some of our group elected to spend the day in the Basilica where they took advantage of the various Masses
and other religious services that are offered throughout the day. After arriving in the Rally area we
listened to several talks from a wide variety of pro life politicians and other pro life advocates. The Rally concluded
around 2:00 PM and then the March to the Capitol area began. After reaching the vicinity of the Capitol some of our
group decided to continue on to the Supreme Court where a large crowd assembled for songs and prayers. Others returned
via the Metro to the Basilica where we attended a late afternoon Pro Life Mass.
We boarded the bus at 5:15 PM and after all were accounted for, we began our return trip and our end of the day arrival
back at the Parish around 9:30 PM. On the way home we spent some time in additional prayer and watched a video on the life
and tragic death of Terri Schiavo. As always, a great day to be part of this prayer filled rally in the continuing fight
for the end of abortion in America and throughout the world. Each year hundreds of thousands participate and the
St. Elizabeth Council is proud to partner with all who attend and especially with our brother Knights in the fight for life.

Lord's Pantry Christmas Gift and Food Distribution--
The Lord's Pantry served 200+ families and 500+ children on Saturday Dec 12th-it was another great experience to help them do that.
There was set up on Fri, Dec 11th, and distribution on Sat Dec 12th. Among the many volunteers there, we had another LARGE turnout of
Knights, wives, and children donating their time and labor to help others enjoy their Christmas. We covered a wide variety of jobs
between Friday and Saturday: Loading and unloading, sorting and bundling by familiy, and carrying items to cars.
The Downingtown West cafeteria was set up as the distribution center once again. With plenty of volunteers, and GREAT
organization by the Lord's Pantry, the day went very smoothly. Many cars were loaded with donated with bags of toys, clothes, bikes and food.
Our thanks to Brother John Magee, who organized our participation.
